Vieux Québec

Allo!

On Saturday I was finally able to make it down to Viex Quebec to get all my touristy-ish things done! I'm only going to post some of the pictures I took as there are so many! However we were lucky enough to run into a street performer on our way back who was pretty fantastic so I have a video of him that you may enjoy!! (Seeing as my videos seems to be working and I found out that my camera records sound...woops!)

This is the old artillery base and where they used to fabricate their arms right inside the wall that surrounds Vieux Québec.

The oh so elegant city hall. Almost every old or important building has the green copper roofs.

The building with the bell tower is a church and the courtyard area is where we seen the performer on our way back at the end of the day. This is also the main road that leads to Rue St. Jean. A very historical part of town and very beautiful!!

Le grand Chateau Frontenac! There were also quit a few horse drawn carriages around the city that you could take and the drivers doubled as tour guides.

This is just a really cool mural that was done on the side of a building. Its hard to tell but the painting includes historical figures, current celebrities and modern moments.

We went to le Musée de civilisation where there was the "Rome" exhibit on tour. This one is for you Kal! Its the tree of life on a very ancient pot from 500 BC... I was most definitely not allowed to take any pictures but I snuck one in there:)

The docks at Basse-Port.

This was the Marché de Vieux Québec = Farmers Market. There were some very awesome vendors here! Everything between maple syrup, baked goods, jewellery, ostrich and goose farmers....

Now just some really pretty streets we wandered down!

The acrobat we encountered on our way home!!

A little bit of culture:)

Salut tout le monde!

I'm goign to keep this pretty short as I really need to catch up on some sleep and my bed is oh so inviting right now.
This week was decently eventful as we were lucky enough to be in the city for what the locals call "Pinch of Love". Basically, everyone from 16 - 25 dresses up in fantastic 80's wear, wanders down Grande Allée (the Quebec equivalent of 11th Ave ish) and sits on the various patios, goes to the cafés or bars and just has a good time. I may be playing this down a little because when I say everyone I mean at least 6000 people!! It was crazy!! You can only imagine the outfits we seen and the amount of fun we had dressing up! I posted below just some pictures of our group and our costumes as well as how crazy the street was. There is a video at the end but I don't know if its going to work...hopefully it gives you a better idea of how awesome and huge the event was:)

Our floor getting ready...

Just to show how dedicated some are to the event!

I think the purple and blue building is Chez Maurice which is a nightclub.

The street was packed like this for at least 10 blocks!

The next two are just pictures of some locals, some really dedicated locals.(You had to have a moustache if you were a boy to get in anywhere.)

First poutine in Qebec city at Chez Ashton, which is supposed to be infamous for its poutines. Was very delicious however slightly disapointed...I am still on the search for the best poutine in Quebec.

This was the jumbo screen on Chez Dagobert, another nightclub, that let you see the performances going on inside. Just another reason why the 80's fashion trends didn't (and for good reason!!) stick around;)

Mes amies!

I fell like this is sufficient enough haha but here is the video just in case...

Then there was today which was immensely different than last night but just as, if not more, amazing!
My class and I wandered down to old Quebec where we were going to catch the ferry to cross St. Laurent river. I have no idea what any of the buildings are as we were just passing through but they were so amazing I couldn't resist some snapshots.

Just walking down the street, no big deal.

Here we are just pullung away from the dock. There is ferry that runs every 15 minutes to take you to Île d'Orléans.

Voici le Chateau Frontenac.

This was I think a covent originally but has since been turned into a private High School.

A very beautiful private high school...

This was another beautiful church on the island.

Grandma, if the giant gold Jesus didn't convince you, will a small one do??

The house of the founder of Des Jardins; the most popular bank in Quebec and sponsors EVERYTHING!!

Absolutely the most amazing ice cream ever!!! Soft serve on a cone dipped in thick, warm and gooey milk chocolate!

Voila the quick trip to the 80's and to the Île d'Orléans, more pics of Vieu Québec to come:)
